How to scan a QR code (Android)?

Starting with Android 8, Android smartphones have an in-built QR code reader. Android 9 and Android 10 scan QR code via Google Lens app:

  1. Open the camera app from the Home Screen, Control Center, or Lock screen.
  2. Select the rear-facing camera.
  3. Hold your device so that the QR code appears in the viewfinder in the camera. Your device should recognise the QR code and show a notification.
  4. Tap the notification to open the payment link.

To activate Google Lens to scan QR codes:

  1. Open the camera app from the Home Screen, Control Center, or Lock screen.
  2. Click More.
  3. Open Settings.
  4. Activate Google Lens suggestions to scan QR codes.

Another way to scan a QR code with an Android smartphone is to use Google Screen Search:

  1. Open the camera app from the Home Screen, Control Center, or Lock screen.
  2. Hold down the Home button.
  3. Swipe up to reveal the options at the bottom.
  4. Select What’s on my screen?.
  5. Click the payment link that has just appeared.

If you don’t know your Android version or can’t use the services listed above, you can check if your smartphone has a built-in QR code scanning feature in its default camera app:

  1. Open the camera app from the Home Screen, Control Center, or Lock screen.
  2. Select the rear-facing camera.
  3. Hold your device so that the QR code appears in the viewfinder in the camera.  Whenever scanning is enabled, a notification with a payment link will appear.
  4. If nothing happens, you may have to go to your Settings app and enable QR Code scanning.

If there is no QR code scanning option in your settings, your device can’t scan QR codes natively. That means you will need to download a third-party QR Code reader app. These are the ones we recommend using:
